Listen to this beautiful Diamonds in the Rough version by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band featuring Earl Scruggs and Mother Maybelle Carter. June Carter is on autoharp.
The Nitty Gritty Dirt band was founded in California in 1966. The band remains still active though there have been constant lineup changes. Jeff Hanna and Jimmie Fadden remain still there since the very beginning.
The “Will the Circle be unbroken” series is like a comet that return with the time. Never dissapointing and always bringing out some of the best country music out there. They are a series of (so far) 3 albums with collaborations with top music artists. The first one, released 1972, achieved Platinum disc. The second, published in 1989 meant a couple of Grammys to add to their career. This third album pays tribute to Mother Maybelle Carter and includes collaboration with Taj Mahal. Johnny Cash sings a beautiful tribute song to his died wife, Maybelle, and there are songs with Doc Wason, Tom Petty or Ricky Skaggs, amongst others.
